Are You Getting Played? (cont.)                       Back

However, in order for an instrument to make a sound, there has to be a plucking of the strings, a striking of the keys or a flow of breath. Rhythm requires kicks, hits and crashes. Impact produces sound.

Life has its share of strikes and winds. However, the sound you make will most likely reflect who or what is making the impact. What sounds are coming from your life? Who and/or what is playing you?

There are those who would be quick to associate this principle with trials and tribulations. However, we must remember that instruments have been designed to be played and when played correctly do not see themselves “enduring” anything. In other words, there is no suffering in functioning the way you were originally intended to function.

The issue here is that many of us have not been functioning according to our design.  We have allowed ourselves to fall into the hands of the inexperienced or unskilled.

Some live in cycles where they are constantly giving themselves over to things that “strum” them the wrong way. So whether by ignorance or by choice, those of us suffering are more likely suffering from being “played” in ways not intended by the Father.

You were designed and hand crafted by the father with a value unfathomable. The “soundness” of your life depends on you discovering the value of who you are and it will determine who you allow to strike your chords.  It reminds me of times as a child when we would go and try to play the instruments after church was over. We were unskilled and did not know what those little switches were for but we had enough respect not to mishandle anything. We did not want to get into trouble with the owner. Then on occasion, there may have been some owners who saw our interest and offered to teach us how to play.

So the Father did not just design us in awesome fashion, but He will also teach your circumstances how to respect that value and design. So that even what some would consider the worst of situations, will still produce a sound of substance.

He will put people in your life who understand the dynamics of your life and will fine tune you so that you are always flowing in the progressions of His expression. And if for any reason, you do experience any complications or defects, God has already purchased through the blood of Christ an unlimited warranty and service plan.

You see, you are too valuable for just anyone to pluck on you. You must realize that there is a sound of the Lord that should be heard through your life that only His hands and His breath can produce. Otherwise you are just a bongo that is being strummed, or a keyboard that is getting crashed. You cannot allow yourself to be handled by the incapable and unskillful. If your life is being played by lust and infidelity, then your life will begin to sound like divorce. If your life is being played by “religion,” then your life will eventually sound like unfulfilled ritual.

The sad part about it is that there are those of us who have become comfortable in our own sound. So comfortable that they thank God for the comfort they have made in dysfunction. They thank God for wealth and fame that was in direct contradiction to His intended design and have convinced themselves that He is pleased with it.

In order for us to understand the sound of the Lord, we must allow Him to awaken us to our original design. We have to trust His hand in the melodies of our lives and be submissive to the tensions of fine tuning. We have to allow Him to express Himself through us, the new song of truth. Otherwise, we’re just getting played.
